American actress Naya Rivera, who is chiefly known for playing Santana Lopez on Glee has been arrested and charged with domestic battery against her husband, actor Ryan Dorsey.
The 30-year-old actor was arrested on Saturday night in Charleston, as stated in the criminal complaint. Deputies arrived at the couple's house after receiving a call around 9.30 pm, following which Dorsey showed them a video of the fight between them.
Naya had reportedly hit her husband on his head and bottom lip while going for a walk with their child in the Chesapeake neighbourhood. Dorsey had minor injuries on his body which are consistent with his accusations.
Rivera was arrested after proper review of the cell phone video. The couple also gave statements to the police, following which the Glee actor was summoned to the magistrate court and charged with domestic battery. Her bail was set at $1000, reports local news station WSAZ.
"There was enough in the video to corroborate the statement of the victim, and that was why the decision that was made was made," said Sgt. Brian Humphreys, as reported by WCHS.
Rivera was charged with misdemeanour but has been released on bond. Her father-in-law appeared to pick her up. However, investigation is still going on into the matter and the star has been termed innocent until proven guilty.
"Whether it's a celebrity or it's your next-door neighbour with no claim to fame whatsoever, the same sort of procedures are going to be followed and of course were followed, and that means that they're going to look into it," said Humphreys. It is being assumed that the couple was fighting over their child.
Rivera got married in 2014 to Dorsey, an actor known for his work in "Southland" and "You're the Worst". The couple had filed for a divorce in November 2016 but called it off in October this year.
Meanwhile, Rivera's ex-fiance Big Sean expressed his reaction over her arrest on Twitter, posting a video of a little girl saying, "I told ya'll..."
Big Sean and Rivera dated for six months before announcing their engagement.
However, the actress stated in her memoir "Sorry Not Sorry" that her fiancé broke off the relationship without even telling her and she got the news from the Internet.
