Flat Earth Society, a group of conspiracy theorists who proclaim that the Earth is flat had a rough encounter with Space X founder Elon Musk on Twitter. It all started when Musk asked the flat-earthers on why there is no Flat Mars society. Within no time the Flat Earth Society replied to the satirical comment of Musk stating that Mars has been observed to be round unlike Earth.
The reply from the Flat Earth Society stated: "Hi Elon, thanks for the question. Unlike the Earth, Mars has been observed to be round." Soon many trolls from social media sites and people have started pouring in, questioning them for their basic understanding of space.
This is not the first time that Flat Earth Society is receiving criticism from renowned personalities. Earlier, American astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has humiliated people who believe in Flat Earth by posting a picture of lunar eclipse where a rectangular share, supposedly the Earth's shadow on his Twitter page. The post soon went viral fetching more than 50,000 retweets.
Flat Earth theory gaining popularity
Even in the midst of growing criticisms, the Flat Earth Society has succeeded in convincing a section of people with their weird theory. Earlier, former England Cricket Captain has openly said that the Earth is flat. While talking on his own podcast, he said that there are no concrete pieces of evidence to prove that the Earth is spherical in shape.
"If you're in a helicopter and you hover why does the Earth not come to you if it's round? Why, if we're hurtling through space, why would water stay still? Why is it not wobbling? Also if you fire a laser about 16 miles, if the world was curved, you shouldn't be able to see it but you can," said Flintoff.
Flintoff also added that the South Pole is the border of the Earth where ice acts as a wall preventing us from falling down. He also made it clear that all governments are building their bases on the South Pole after understanding that the Earth is flat.
