Soon after the meteoric success of Thor: Ragnarok, Marvel has dropped another treat for its fans with the first teaser trailer of Avengers: Infinity War. It appeared for viewers worldwide after being shown to select audiences at Disney's D23 Expo and San Diego Comic-Con. As soon as the trailer dropped, superhero fans-recently disappointed by Justice League, erupted in ecstasy, creating an uproar on social media.
With all the big players in the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally coming together to fight the biggest battle of their existence, the movie is assured to blow up the box-office, if you know what I mean. Amidst all the epic action, there might be a few things hidden in the trailer that you missed.
The arrival of Thanos and his Black Order
Thanos has loomed in the shadows of the Avengers universe since the end-credit scene of the first Avengers movie. Now, he is finally in the spotlight and let's not forget, he is not all alone.
Thanos has a Black Order: a team of four powerful allies who are capable of giving a very hard time to the Avengers. At Disney's D23 Expo, it was revealed that the members of the Black Order: Proxima Midnight, Corvus Glaive, Ebony Maw and Black Dwarf will feature in Infinity War. Now, the trailer has confirmed the presence of the first two.
PM is seen throwing a spear at Captain America, who catches it heroically and CG's scene depicts him pulling the Infinity Stone out of Vision forcibly. What the other two are capable of doing to the Avengers, only time will tell us.
The developing love angles
A very real scene in the trailer depicts a human version of Vision (Paul Bettany) embracing Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). Now, how did Vision become human-like and what happened to his synthetic avatar remains to be seen. Also, was this before his Infinity Stone was attacked or as an attempt to conceal it from the enemies, we might only speculate before the movie's release. The bottomline is that there is emotion between the two and a deep one at that.
On another side of the couples' bandwagon is the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). Their connection was left at a tricky point when Hulk decided to take the quinjet away from everyone at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Now, we know what he has been up to since then but Natasha does not. Their reunion will probably be bittersweet, as Natasha obviously still has resentment for his actions but seems glad to see him back.
The (relatively) new players
The Marvel universe has always been ruled by Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. In this trailer, however, the new players have come more into focus. Among them is Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), who was also seen briefly in Thor: Ragnarok. The new recruit Scarlet Witch also seems to be making good progress as a member of the team of heroes.
Peter Parker (Tom Holland) aka Spider Man will also be called in the thick of things, going by the trailer which shows a ring-like structure in the sky, witnessing which Parker's spidey-sense becomes alert. Strangely, Hawkeye seems to be missing from the trailer.
What are the Avengers up to
The trailer opens with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) sitting in pain, with the scene having an orange background that does not appear to be Earth. What is Iron Man up to and why is he so distraught?
Black Widow, apart from having stunning blonde hair, seems pretty much as badass as always. Captain America, who is seen after he left with his friend in Captain America: Civil War, sports a new rugged, bearded look. He has also lost his shield, which T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) points out when he says, "Get this man a shield." On the other hand, Loki seems up to his usual mischief, here seen stepping over bodies of supposed Asgardians and handing over the Tesseract to someone unknown.
Towards the end of the trailer, Cap is shown running at the front of the Avengers' team, all prepared to face their new battle, and he seems as reliable as always. Also, the arrival of the Guardians of the Galaxy, whose spaceship met with Thor's at the end of Thor: Ragnarok, will also be helpful in adding muscle and brain power to the team which is fighting to save many worlds.
Sadly, we have to wait until May to find out who survives the war and who falls victim to Thanos' evil plans.
Till then, watch the trailer to soothe your soul.
