Several Korean idol groups led by BTS are the most talked about celebrities on Twitter for the year 2017 as K-pop became a hot topic on the social networking site.
Seven-member BTS, backed by their thousands of fans called ARMYs around the world, became the most tweeted about celebrity globally this year, according to Twitter's year-end summary.
Seventeen, another Korean boy band, grabbed second place while Monsta X surprisingly made it by placing at No. 9.

In the US, BTS dominated Twitter as they became the most tweeted about musician for 2017, edging out the likes of Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber.

Remember the "Ko Ko Bop" challenge spawned by Korean boy band EXO's song? It became viral and perhaps, helped the song to garner the most mentions on Twitter this year.
"Ko Ko Bop" topped the list while GOT7's "You Are" and "Never Ever" grabbed third and eight places, respectively. There's dispute about the No. 7 hashtag #love_yourself as Billboard reported that it belongs to Justin Bieber while BTS fans said it belongs to the boy band.

In Korea, BTS dominated Twitter as they are now the account with the most followers at 10.8 million as of press time.
BTS also set this year's "golden tweet" or most tweeted post last July 10 when a video of a sleeping Jungkook being fed with French fry got 770,000 likes and 370,000 retweets.
