A man was stabbed and run over by a car in Johor Bahru in a grisly case of murder that has shocked Malaysia. The incident happened at a petrol station along Jalan Sri Pelangi in Taman Pelangi on Sunday, December 17.
The victim was travelling with his wife in a Volkswagen Polo around 7 pm on Sunday when he stopped at the petrol station. The four suspects pulled up in a white BMW and immediately started attacking the man.
"A foreign woman, who claimed to be the victim's wife, was inside the vehicle and she immediately ran for help," said Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd, as reported by Asia One.

The victim's wife ran for help after the man was attacked while he was trying to defend her. Meanwhile, the man was stabbed and the attackers tried to pull him inside their car. When he resisted, they mowed him down and ran him over twice, before leaving him dead at the scene.
Khalil also said that one of the suspects threw a firecracker to scare the people who had gathered at the scene to watch the incident. Early investigations revealed that the victim's death was caused due to injuries on the left side of his chest.
The police have recorded a statement from the woman and the case has been put under Section 302 of the penal code for murder.
People have been urged to come forward with any information they might have on the suspects or if they have witnessed any movement from a white BMW with a WB 79 registration number. They have also stated in a Facebook post that people should stop speculating about the murder and arrest of the assailants as it may hamper the investigation.

This incident follows other cases of accidents and crimes that have been reported recently in Malaysia. In a survey performed in 2016, Malaysia ranked first in Southeast Asia for the overall crime rate. It holds the 15th rank in highest crime rate all over the world.
