Three dozen miners rescued from German potash mine following blast

An explosion at an underground mine in central Germany has injured two workers, while more than 30 people were trapped underground, The mine in Saxony-Anhalt has a depth of 700 metres.

Around three dozen workers were rescued after being trapped 700 metres (2,300 feet) below ground, Reuters reported, citing local officials. The blast took place in a potash mine.

German local media said the explosion took place deep underground and the possible cause is ascertained as methane gas leak. It has been reported that oxygen supplies to the trapped workers were in place, making rescue operations easy.

However, the mining authority said one of the staff was seriously injured, the agency reported, citing the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung news website.
