Explosions have rocked the Russian forces' airfield in Belarus, according to local media reports. Early reports indicated that there were at least four flashes in about 10 minutes.
"The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus reported earlier that Belarusian air defense and Air Force troops were conducting training exercises with live fire, but it is unclear whether these are connected to the flashes seen near Zyabrovka", reported Ukrainian Pravda.
Russia's Iskander-M Missile Division Are Stationed At The Unit
Belarus handed over its Zyabrovka airfield to Russia in July this year, according to Oleksii Hromov, Deputy Commander of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Hromov had also claimed that since July, Russian forces are completely the airfield.
Eight Flashes Were Recorded
The troops had set up a Russian military base at the airfield. According to Hromov, Russia's Iskander-M missile division and an S-400 [missile] division were stationed at the field.
Belarussian media outlets reported that a big flash was clearly visible; it did not resemble an 'engine on fire'. It was reported that flashes and explosions in the area of the Zyabrovka airfield began around 00:20 on 11 August, according to Ukrainian Pravda.
At least eight flashes were recorded, according to Hajun which failed to link the incident with any drills being conducted by Belarussian forces.
10 Units of S-400 Air Defense Missile System Are Stationed In The Airfield
Hajun claimed that Russia's massive number of equipment are stationed at the airfield in Zyabrovka.
Nearly 10 units of the S-400 Triumph air defense missile system, 2 units of the Pantsir anti-aircraft gun and missile system, an Iskander mobile short-range ballistic missile system as well as dug-in and camouflaged tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, according to Hajun.
Hours after the incident, Belarussian Defense Ministry stated that explosions and flashes at the Zyabrovka airfield were the results of an explosion in one of the units of equipment.
