Apple iPhone 8 to feature improved IP68 water resistance

iPhone 8 is expected to compete with the likes of Galaxy S7 and S8 with new IP68 rating.

iPhone 7 IP67 water-resistant capability

Apple will be celebrating the iPhone's tenth anniversary in September with the grand unveiling of the iPhone 8, which is expected to feature a superior water resistance rating than the current flagship 'iPhone 7', according to The Korea Herald.

With an IP67 rating, the iPhone 7 is water resistant at a depth of 1m (3.28 feet) for up to 30 minutes and the iPhone 8 is expected to better this feat with an IP68 rating that enables the phone to remain unaffected at a depth of up to 1.5m (4.92 feet) for up to 30 minutes.

Samsung Galaxy S7 is the only other smartphone which is currently flaunting the coveted IP68 rating among water-resistant smartphones. However, the South Korean company is expected to bring more competition with the highly-anticipated launch of the Galaxy S8 around the same time when the iPhone 8 is rumoured to be launched.

iPhone 6s still remains Apple's first smartphone to unofficially exhibit water-resistant properties without an actual rating. It made use of various design tweaks including air-tight seals around the internal components and the edges of the casing.

We can only hope that the iPhone 8 would not disappoint us, given Apple's track record with the water-resistant capabilities of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7.
