Korean boy band BTS will be attending the 2017 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) slated on May 21 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. BTS is the first K-pop group to be nominated at the BBMA.
They are competing in the Top Social Artist category against Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Shawn Mendes. The award is selected by fan votes.
The idol group posted on Twitter the invitation extended by the BBMA organizers, which confirmed their attendance.
"YUP! @BTS_twt is confirmed to attend the #BBMAs! Don't miss the show, LIVE May 21st at 8e/5p on ABC," the BBMA tweeted, confirming that BTS will be one of the seven artists that will be making their presence at the awards ceremony.
"Their nomination for top social artist is no surprise, as the group hit its 23rd week at No. 1 on the Social 50 chart on May 6, moving out of a tie with Miley Cyrus and Rihanna for third place in most weeks atop the chart," according to Billboard.
BTS has a great chance of winning the Top Social Artist award considering that it is very popular especially on social media.
The group's Twitter account has 5.6 million followers, while their Facebook account is followed by 4.32 million people.
"We are really excited to be invited to the Billboard Music Awards, a gathering of artists from all over the world. Thanks to ARMYs all over the world and we are truly grateful to have been invited to the awards ceremony," said BTS.
They will walk the red carpet before going to the awards show.
The boy band has been going to different countries for its "The Wings Tour." They held concerts in Chicago, Newark and Anaheim in the US in March and April.
They will hold concerts in Hong Kong on May 13 and 14, attend the BBMA and then fly to Sydney for a concert on May 26.
The last leg of the tour will be in Japan where they are scheduled to hold 13 concerts in different cities from May 30 to July 2.
