BTS and TWICE named as top K-pop groups

BTS and TWICE have bagged the number one spot for the most popular and influential K-pop band in a survey conducted by Sports Chosun. The survey was conducted among 20 K-pop agencies while BTS received 18 votes and TWICE took away 17.

Both the groups have a huge fan base not just in Korea but also across the globe. BTS also known as Bangtan Boys is a seven-member boy band was formed by Big Hit Entertainment and made their debut in June 2013 with the song "No More Dream" from their album, 2 Cool 4 Skool. Their debut album won several awards including the 2013 MelOn Music Awards and Golden Disk Awards, and the 2014 Seoul, South Korea Music Awards. "Most Beautiful Moment in Life trilogy" is their most popular album till date. It comprises of Rap Monster, J-Hope, Suga, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, and V. To date, BTS's discography has sold an estimated 2.7 million albums worldwide. They were also named as the most retweeted artist on Twitter in March 2016 by Forbes.

On the other hand, success and TWICE go hand-in-hand. The 9-member comprises of Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. In 2016, the girls already had a dream run by selling about 225,000 copies of their two versions of the third mini-album. According to the Gaon chart, the girls sold 220,000 copies of the album, making TWICE the highest selling girl group in Gaon's history as well. Today, with an amazing fan base across the globe, TWICE is already compared to two legendary K-pop Girl Bands, 2NE1 and Girls Generation. They are also one of the few K-pop bands to top the Billboard charts for more than 4 weeks.

TWICE has also earned exceptional views for their videos online. And their recent single "Knock Knock" was no different. The song third consecutive week topping the "Inkigayo" charts, giving them the highly valued "triple crown."
