Overview

Chen Long is all set to battle for China Open Superseries 2016 glory against Jan O Jorgensen in Fuzhou on 20 November. The reigning Olympic champion was tested in the semi-final on Saturday by third seed Viktor Axelsen in a gripping clash.

After clinching a hard-fought first game 21-18, Chen was stunned in the second as the Danish shutter forced a decider after crushing the world number two 21-9. However, the three-time winner held his nerves and fended off the challenge in the third game to book his place in the final.

Chen, except for Saturday's clash, has not broken a sweat in the ongoing tournament. Straight sets victory against Ajay Jayaram and Shi Yuqi in the quarter-final and second round and his first round opponent Tommy Sugiarto's retirement has made sure the second seed is in good shape for the ultimate battle.

Chen is expected to emerge victorious in the absence of top-ranked superstars Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei at home on his return to court after his successful Olympic campaign in August.

Also, he has enjoyed a lot of success in the past against his Sunday's opponent. Chen has a 9-1 head-to-head record over the Danish shuttler, who decimated Malaysian youngster Iskandar Zulkarnain in the semi-final.

Zulkarnain, who was eyeing his first Superseries final appearance, lost Saturday's clash 22-20, 20-22, 21-7 to Jorgensen, who also crushed local shuttler, fifth seed Tian Houwei en route to his final.

While fourth seed Jorgensen, who has been inconsistent since his first-round exit at Rio, will want to put an end to his title drought, he has to come up with a top effort to beat the Chinese star, who will be rallied by the home support.
