Overview

Chou Tien Chen takes on Jun Peng Zhao in the Men's singles final of 2016 Macau Open at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion on 4 December.

Chen just needed 35 minutes to dispose off his semi-final opponent Huang Yuxiang 21-13, 21-19 on Saturday. The top seed has had a comfortable campaign except for his second round clash against Chinese shuttler Guo Kai.

On Sunday, the Taiwanese shuttler faces another Chinese opponent in Peng, who has surprised quite a few by reaching this far in the ongoing tournament at Macau. The 20-year-old stunned sixth seed Tzu Wei Wang in the semi-final on Saturday to prevent an all-Taiwan final today.

Despite losing the first game 17-21, Peng turned it around and gave no chance to his opponent taking the next two games 21-12, 21-11. The world number 125 got the momentum going his way when he decimated higher-ranked Sai Praneeth in his quarter-final clash 21-19, 21-9.

Peng has already ousted two Taiwanese opponent and a bigger test awaits him on Sunday. With a maiden Grand Prix Gold title in sight, the Chinese shuttler will push himself to the limits to emerge successful.

On the other hand, Chen also has a lot to prove after a series of disappointing results in 2016. After winning the Chinese Taipei Open in July, the world number eight has not had favourable results in the Superseries tournaments at Japan, Korea, Denmark, France, China and Hong Kong. The Taiwan shuttler would not want to let go off a relatively easier opportunity to clinch the title on Sunday.
