In popular South Korean dramas "Goblin," "Legend of the Blue Sea" and "Doctors," the appearance of claw machines attracted the viewers and now they are really interested in the gaming device. In fact, according to the reports, it has even become a part of dating culture in South Korea.
The claw machine is popular among arcade gamers. It is normally found in arcade shops or entertainment areas, and the machine has got a unique way to bond with friends or to test the skills and patience of a person.
Recently, in various popular South Korean TV series, the claw machines made their way in, making it more popular among the viewers. In the popular tvN drama "Goblin", a scene was featured where Eun Tak (Kim Go Eun) challenged Shin (Gong Yoo) to show his skills by putting some specific item inside the claw machine, reported Yibada.
In the SBS fantasy "Legend of the Blue Sea", a similar scene was included where Shim Cheong (Jun Ji Hyun) was seen playing the claw machine a number of times to capture a pink octopus doll. In the drama, the game may have been introduced by Jun Jae (Lee Min-ho) to Shim Cheong.
In another SBS drama "Doctors," the claw machine was included in the story. In the drama, the gaming device was placed inside Ji Hong's (Kim Rae Won) home which acted as a stress reliever for the surgeon, and also a reminder of his childhood.
As more and more South Korean dramas are including the gaming device in their series, the growth in their populairty is visible. A number of shops that feature the claw machines have come up in the past two years, according to Yonhap.
In the major commercial areas, it has been found that claw machines are being used by dating couples, students, and also professionals.
