Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who is currently taking a break from the octagon, has revealed he would want to be in the ring against unbeaten boxing legend Floyd Mayweather soon. The Irish star has also not dismissed speculations about a guest appearance at WWE Wrestlemania in April this year.
After a strong 2016 campaign, in which he avenged his UFC 196 loss to arch rival Nate Diaz at the UFC 2012 and also became the first dual-weight UFC champion, McGregor, it seems, is making plans for another eventful year.
While defending his lightweight title will be in his wishlist, McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) is more than willing to take on Mayweather, who had also said earlier that the boxing match against the Irishman is the only thing that can force him comeback from retirement.
Notably, both the fighters have been demanding large sums of money with Mayweather even saying that he would want $100m for the fight and that he was willing to negotiate the PPV profits with the 28-year-old. McGregor, in response, has revealed that he has eyes on the fight and was willing to negotiate payment deals during a Pay-Per-View interview on Saturday.
"I have my eyes on one thing and that's Floyd Mayweather. Me and Floyd have got to get together and talk and figure it out the same way him and Manny (Pacquiao) figured it out," McGregor said, as quoted by the Fox Sports.
"Once we come to a number, once we come to a set number that I am happy with, that he is happy with and then we go to the customers. Then we go to the promoters, the buyers and then we get it done. That is next."
Wrestlemania appearance
While the results of Sunday's Royal Rumble (Randy Orton winning the 30-man over-the-top rope match) has given us a hint of what to expect from WWE's biggest annual event Wrestlemania, scheduled for 3 April, McGregor opened up about the chances of his guest appearance at the PPV event.
Following Ronda Rousey's appearance at the 2015 Wrestlemania, none of the UFC stars have graced the ring at the mega event. Responding to speculations, McGregor revealed that he would love to enter the world of WWE and "have a real knock".
"Never say never. know there have been conversations. I know Triple H was at [my last fight, at UFC 205]. I would love to go into that WWE and have a real knock. Let them have a real knock, and we will see what is what. We will see. The conversations are ongoing," the UFC star said, as quoted by the MMA Junkie.
