South Korean TV series 'Descendants of the Sun' may have ended in April but it has officially marked its international fame by being one of the popular TV series in Twitter Trends 2016 and will be getting a new airing in Europe.
According to Twitter Trends 2016, the Descendants of the Sun, which starred romantic couple Song Joong Ki and Song Hye kyo, has overtaken multiple popular shows like "Orange is the New Black," "Stranger Things," and "The Voice". The South Korean TV series was listed as the fourth trending TV show. HBO's popular fantasy drama Game of Thrones (GoT) topped the list for quite obvious reasons. It was followed by American drama series The Walking Dead, and Grey's Anatomy.
The drama series was hugely popular in South Korea during its run. DOTS has been available through online platforms which made it easy for the international fans as well. However, it is now to get its first European broadcast and that too through a non-state Greek TV channel.
As reported by Soompi, the Korean Embassy in Greece announced that TV100 from Thessaloniki will be broadcasting "Descendants of the Sun" in December. It is expected to run for around 19 weeks, which will feature the original 16 episodes and also the 3 special episodes of the staff interviews. It will also be showing footage of the behind-the-scenes.
As reported by KoreanPortal, "DOTS will also supposedly be available across the areas of Greece and Cyprus via cable." Regarding this, the ambassador of the Korean Embassy in Greece, Ahn Young-Jip stated: "We hope that cultural exchange between Korea and Greece will deepen with the broadcast of "Descendants of the Sun."
The Korean Embassy in Greece expects the TV series will captivate its new viewers with its mind-boggling plot, cast, and setting, as many scenes feature famous Greek tourist locations like Arachova and Zakynthos.
