The 2016 Korean military romance drama, Descendants of the Sun, is being honoured with another prestigious award at the 50th World Fest-Houston International Film Festival. According to inquisitr, the Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-kyo starrer drama won the special jury award for their amazing performance and for displaying originality.
Though the drama aired almost a year back that too in South Korea, fans from all over Asia including Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, China and Taiwan loved the drama. They were glued to their screens and this made the drama hugely successful.
The drama has already won a lot of awards and now the World Fest-Houston gave it global recognition, as it is the only film festival which has ten major competition categories.
Inquisitr mentioned that the company said, "We have more than 200 sub-categories, so a small Indie documentary does not have to compete with a National Geographic Special. Each year, we receive more than 4,500 category entries, and only about 15 percent of total entries actually win a Remi Award. Since we did give first honors to Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Ang Lee, John Lee Hancock, Randal Kleiser and the Coen Brothers, the winners of this year could well become the Spielbergs or Ang Lees of tomorrow. We present only one Grand Remi Award to the top winner in each of the major ten categories."
Descendants of the Sun is reigning for a pretty long time and the magical duo Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo to be credited for it for pulling up their respective roles in just a brilliant manner. The on-screen chemistry of the couple made them earn the title of Song-Song couple.
In fact, the CEO of New Entertainment, Kim Woo Taek who produced the Descendants of the Sun, praising the performance of Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo said, "Song Joong-ki had just returned from the mandatory military duty. He could have opted to choose other roles. But he readily agreed to this one. I am glad that Song Hye-kyo too agreed despite her schedule. Because of them, I never thought about other possible actor and actress. They are the best team ever."
Apart from Descendants of the Sun, at the 50th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival Moonlight Drawn by Clouds starring Park Bo-gum and W-Two Worlds Apart also bagged awards.
