US President Donald trump antagonized Muslims the world over with his executive order halting the refugee programme and banning the entry for people from seven Muslim majority countries. But an Egyptian Muslim philosopher and academic has found great reasons to believe Trump is a God-sent blessing.
Murad Wahba, academic and thinker, told a local Egyptian TV channel that divine action was in play behind Trump's unexpected trouncing of Democrat Hillary Clinton in the November elections. "Without exaggerating, if Clinton had come into power we would have fallen into a civilisational disaster," Wahba said, according to the Albawaba news portal.
The controversial comments from the Muslim world came after Trump signed the executive order dubbed as 'Muslim ban', preventing visa holders of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from arriving in the US. Trump also ordered extreme vetting for people from allies Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
However, Trump had omitted Egypt from the list, despite the series of terror attacks the country witnessed in the last few years. The report says Trump, a billionaire businessman, still keeps positions in two companies that have businesses partnership with the Egyptian government. Trump has also been a supporter of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sis, who checked the rise of hardline Muslim Brotherhood in the country.
Murad Wahba is a vocal supporter of Sisi as well. According to him Sisi was also sent by God to crush the Brotherhood, which would have created an Islamic caliphate in the country.
"This is why [Egyptian President Abdel Fattah] al-Sisi is excited about Trump because he has saved civilisation," Wahba said. Wahba also blamed former US president Barack Obama for the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
