South Korean boy group EXO member Kai received backlash from netizens on social media after it was confirmed that he will be seen in the upcoming KBS 2TV drama. According to Korean news outlet Sports DongA, it was revealed, that the singer will headline the pre-produced drama, Andante.
The 22-year-old idol will star opposite Jung Da Bin in the show, and will play the role of a high school student, Lee Shi Kyung. According to the storyline, Lee Shi Kyung discovers nature when he moves to the countryside, all of a sudden.
However, the major backlash by the netizens on social media proved that not everyone is happy with Kai's casting. According to various comments, Kai who gave outstanding performance in web drama Choco Bank, as Kim Eun Haeng, is still not experienced enough in acting to take up lead roles.
A netizen wrote in a Korean online community, as cited by All Kpop:"Why would they make a kid who's been in a few web dramas suddenly the male lead in a public broadcasting station drama? Even in a supporting role on a public broadcasting station drama, it's easy to get hated on."
Many believe that if the 22-year-old EXO member fail to perform well as the lead in the upcoming television series, he will only be receiving more criticisms, and that is something they fear would happen.
While the netizens are going mad about his casting, both Kai and the KBS network have not spoken a word on the issue. According to the reports, Andante will consist of 16-episode and will be premièred this year in the second half.
