International Space Stations (ISS) Expedition 52 crew members have landed safely in Dzhezkazgan of Kazakhstan at 9:21 pm EDT (7:21 am Kazakhstan time, September 3). ISS commander Fyodor Yurchikhin of Russian space agency Roscosmos and NASA astronauts Peggy Whitson and Jack Fischer have landed on the Earth after breaking several space records.
Whitson and Fischer have done hundreds of research experiments in biology, biotechnology, physical science and Earth Science.
during the mission, the crew had welcomed tons of supplies from seven cargo space crafts. Lithium-ion batteries, which were delivered by Japans H-11 Transfer Vehicle, were installed to the space station through robotics and spacewalks. Orbital ARK Cygnus spacecraft has completed its seventh commercial resupply in April. SpaceX Dragon spacecraft has made three commercial resupplying through its missions in February, June, and August. Russian ISS Program Cargo Spacecraft shipped their cargo in February and June.
The crew had an active role in fixing Cosmic-Ray Energetics and Mass for the International Space Investigation, also known as ISS-CREAM. This instrument helps in gathering ten times more data of cosmic rays from across the galaxy, than from the Earth's atmosphere. The balloon instrument was carried by SpaceX Dragon Lab cargo supply mission and placed on Japanese Exposed Module for a period of at least three years.
Know the crew
Peggy Whitson, 57, has made records including completion of the 288-day mission which began on last November. She made the record of third long duration mission on the station, two hundred and eighty-eight days during this mission alone and six hundred and sixty-five days in her career. She has built a record as the eighth person on the list for the total time spent in space.
She completed a total of ten space walks while doing four space walks during this mission alone. She has also made 4,623 orbits of the Earth, and a distance of 122.2 million miles in her space missions. She has also completed sixty hours and twenty-one minutes of extra-vehicular activity (EVA) during her career. She is also the oldest women space traveller.
ISS commander Fyodor Yurchikhin has completed six hundred and seventy-three days in space is ranked number seven among the all- time endurance list. He has done eight space walks for a duration of 51 hours and 53 minutes. Fyodor gave his charge as the commander of the ISS to Randy Bresnik of NASA.
Fischer has completed one hundred thirty-six space days in mission 52 and has completed his first and second space walks of his career in this mission.
The space station is on with expedition 53, with Randy Bresnik of NASA as its commander. Sergey Ryazanskiy of Roscosmos and Paolo Nespoli of ESA ( European Space Agency) are also working in the space station as flight engineers. The three-person crew will operate the station until the arrival of NASA astronauts Mark VandeHei and Joe Acaba, and Alexander Misurkin of Roscosmos. The new crew will leave for ISS on Sept.12, from Baikonur, Kazakhstan.
