The first stills fom the new MBC drama Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People are out and actors Yoon Kyun-sang, Honey Lee, Kim Ji-suk and Kim Sang-joong look absolutely great in the characters they play in it.
The new Monday-Tuesday drama Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People is set in the era of tyrant King Yeonsangun's reign. The story will revolve around Hong Gil-dong, one of Korea's most famous folk heroes.
But it is little different from the classic tale which people know. Unlike the tale where it is known that Hong Gil-dong stole material goods from the rich people and gave it to the poor, in this drama Hong Gil-dong is a "thief" of people's hearts.
The "thief" of people's hearts will be played by Yoon Kyun-sang, and the role of ruthless King Yeonsangun of Joseon will be played by Kim Ji-suk. The upcoming MBC drama is written by Hwang Jin-young and directed by Kim Jin-man. The new drama tries to portray the virtues which one must have in order to succeed as a leader of the people.
Reportedly, the role of Hong Gil-dong's father is to be played by Kim Sang-joong. According to dramabeans: "Honey Lee plays famous Joseon femme fatale Jang Nok-su, King Yeonsangun's confidante and consort, and in this story, her first and forever love is Hong Gil-dong. Chae Soo-bin (Moonlight Drawn By Clouds) rounds out the main cast as Song Ga-ryung, a young widow and Hong Gil-dong's leading lady who desires to kill Yeonsangun to avenge the death of her husband."
The new drama of MBC promises an old story in a new bottle, a twist in the classic tale of Hong Gil-dong legend we all know about. With a quite promising and solid cast it is expected that the new drama Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People will be a great watch this year.
After the Night Light ends early this year, Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People will premiere on MBC.
