Tens of thousands of people streamed into the Grand Palace in Bangkok on Saturday to pay their last tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. This was the first time when the public was granted entry to the throne hall where late king is lying in state.

The authorities will allow 10,000 mourners enter the decorated throne hall every day but in small batches. Massive crowds were seen waiting outside the Grand Palace for the past two weeks to pay their respect before a portrait of the monarch.

The 88-year-old late King Bhumibol was adored by his subjects and was recognised as an anchor of stability in a kingdom that has been rocked by turbulent politics.

Since his death, the Thais are seen wearing only black and white as a mark of mourning. The television channels have been devoting hours of airtime to show the footage from his 70-year reign.
