SpaceX led by South African billionaire Elon Musk sent Falcon Heavy, the most powerful rocket ever launched to space since Saturn V on February 13, 2017. The rocket delivered a Tesla Roadster into space with a dummy driver Starman onboard the car, and successfully descended back to Earth. But a group of conspiracy theorists who believe in the concept of 'flat earth' is not ready to believe the claims made by SpaceX, and they assure that the launch is nothing but a manipulated hoax.
As per these theorists, the rocket after takeoff has ended up landing in the Atlantic Ocean. "It certainly is interesting to see the shift of focus in space programs from official government, organizations to privately-run organizations. Whether or not that's a good thing will, of course, vary with your political views, but the ultimate outcome isn't much different. After all, corporations are driven by profit, not the pursuit of knowledge or truth," wrote the flat earth society in a blog post.
The flat earth society also criticized SpaceX for live streaming the launch, and they assured that the launch was shown live to make people believe that these missions are real.
"What is surprising, however, is the new generation of people shouting "It's true, I saw it on TV!" Except this time, it's the Internet. We have already witnessed the shortfalls of this blind belief in online materials," continued the blog post.
Many flat-earthers believe that private agencies like SpaceX are sending fake missions to space so that people will get distracted from searching the existence of other lands which exist outside the ice ring which borders the flat earth.
In the meantime, a Facebook page managed by flat earth conspiracy theorists posted an interesting picture of Falcon Heavy live streaming and shared the anomalies in it. The picture featured the Roadster traveling on space in the backdrop of Earth. The theorists pointed out that there are no stars and satellites in the image shared by SpaceX, and this clearly points out that their launch was a fake mission.
However, experts are not interested enough to give explanations to these theorists, as most of the scientists in space agencies believe that it is the lack of education which compels these conspiracy theorists to come forward with bizarre claims.
