At least 13 people have been killed in the central Vietnam by torrential rainfall and floods since November, the state media and government said on Sunday. Authorities also added that heavy rainfall is expected in coming days.
The government said since Thursday six people have died in Binh Dinh province due to floods while another four were killed in Quang Ngai province. More than 10,000 homes were submerged in the two provinces.
The Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper cited a provincial report as saying that three children aged between four and 13 were swept away in the flood waters in Quang Nam province on Saturday.
A government report said heavy rainfall is expected to affect the central provinces within next Thursday as a cold snap has been noted moving southwards causing rainfall.
On Friday, the government said floods have already killed 65 people in central provinces since October. It has submerged 200,000 homes and damaged railway and roads incurring losses worth more than 7 trillion dong (US$309 million).
The areas in the north, which have been affected mostly by the flood are the regions outside Vietnam's Central Highlands coffee belt and Mekong Delta food basket.
