Jennifer Yeo, the wife of Former Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo's wife, is getting the best treatment for her cancer in America and her body is responding well to it, according to recent reports. Doctors also said she can go home soon.
She is currently receiving treatment in Houston, Texas at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre.
Jennifer complained of loss of smell last July, following which she was diagnosed with sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC). SNUC is a rare cancer of the nasal cavity and/or paranasal sinuses. The minister immediately took his wife to US for treatment.
The symptoms of the disease range from a bloody nose, runny nose, double vision, and bulging eye to chronic infections and nasal obstruction.
The ex-foreign minister took to Facebook to share the happy news on Thursday (1 February). He mentioned in a post that there is no longer any trace of her cancer in Jennifer's body after 4 cycles of chemotherapy and 33 sessions of proton beam radiotherapy. However, doctors will closely monitor her recovery for the next two years.
"...Jennifer's MRI showed the tumour to have melted away. We thank God for His mercy, the Virgin Mary for her intercession and so many relatives, friends and well-wishers for your prayers and support," wrote Yeo in his post.
Jennifer, who is the founder of the Viva Foundation, is also a lawyer. Viva Foundation, along with the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Tennessee, aims at tackling childhood cancer.
George Yeo served the country not only as the foreign affairs minister but also as the finance minister, Information minister, Communications and the Arts minister and health minister. He quit politics in 2011 and moved to the private sector in Hong Kong.
In 2012, Yeo joined the Kuok Group as Senior Advisor, and vice chairman of its subsidiary Kerry Group (HK) Pte Ltd, following which he was appointed as chairman and executive director of Kerry Logistics Network and has his base in both Singapore and Hong Kong.
