Kim Go-eun stole countless hearts with her innocent yet intense portrayal of Ji Eun-tak, the Goblin's bride in tvN's 'Goblin,' also known as 'Guardian: The lonely and Great God.' Now she might be doing a bit of hip hop if she accepts her latest movie offer.
Kim Go-eun's agency HODU&U Entertainment announced on June 29 that the 'Cheese in the Trap' actress has received casting offer for an upcoming Hip Hop movie called 'Byeonsan' or 'Byeon Mountain.' She is said to be positively considering the offer, Soompi noted.
As per Soompi, the story of 'Byeonsan' revolves around a rapper, played by actor Park Jung-min, who prepares himself for a hip hop audition but is forced to return to his hometown after being informed that his father has fallen ill. The role offered to Kim Go-eun is the character's first love, who it might be inferred, is from the lead character's hometown.
The story can thus be expected to deal with themes of melancholy, nostalgia, regret, heartbreaks and personal struggles. The role offered to Kim Go-eun is certainly different from the Ji Eun-tak character in 'Goblin.' It sounds like a more mature character.
'Byeon Mountain' is to be directed by filmmaker and producer Lee Joon-ik, best known for the 2005 film 'King and the Clown.' He also directed 'Once Upon a Time in a Battlefield' (2003), 'Radio Star' (2006), 'Hope' (2013), 'Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet' (2016) and 'Anarchist from Colony' (2017).
Apart from her two well-known dramas, Kim Go-eun has been part of eight movies. Her first movie role was in the year 2012, playing a 17-year old high school student in the drama 'A Muse,' directed by Jung Ji-woo. She followed this up with a short film, 'Yeonga,' in the same year. In 2013, she appeared in 'Never Die Butterfly,' and the following year in the South Korean thriller 'Monster.'
In 2015, Kim Go-eun took part in three films, 'Coin Locker Girl,' 'Memories of the Sword' and 'The Advocate: A Missing Body;' all being prominent roles. Her last film was 'Canola' in 2016, about an elderly female diver native to Jeju Island who is reunited with her granddaughter played by Kim Go-eun, after 12 years of separation. It seems Kim Go-eun's character in 'Byeon Mountain' is at least on the surface, similar to her role in 'Canola.'
More details are expected to emerge depending on whether the 'Goblin' actress accepts the role in 'Byeonsan' or not.
