The hit fantasy drama of tvN, Goblin ended its 16-episode run in January and reportedly it is now the most watched Korean drama through video on demand (VOD).
The fantasy drama aired on the cable channel from December of 2016 to February 2017. The interesting storyline and amazing cast of Goblin brought in staggering total revenue which was about 14 billion won (approximately $12.5 million).
According to Soompi, "in terms of users, the revenue equates to about 15 to 16 million viewers re-watching the drama."
The news outlet further mentioned that Goblin, has been recorded as the most watched drama through VOD. Previously, the record of the most watched drama was set by KBS 2TV's Descendants of the Sun and tvN's Reply 1988.
However, Goblin which has been breaking records right from its premiere easily past these two dramas and broke their records.
According to the report, hit drama, Reply 1988 brought about 300 million won (approximately $270,000) per episode and around 7 billion won (approximately $6.2 million) in total. The details of the VOD revenue for Descendants of the Sun was not released but a source of KBS reportedly revealed that it was same as Reply 1988.
Surpassing both the hit dramas, tvN's Goblin, brought in almost 900 million won (approximately $800,000) per episode.
In other news, the actors of the hit drama too received a lot of love and appreciation. Lee Dong Wook, the Grim reaper of the drama is busy with fan-meets and the lead actor of the drama Gong Yoo recently bagged an exclusive interview with CNN. His interview is scheduled to be aired at the end of this month.
