South Korean actor Gong Yoo's exclusive interview with CNN is out. The 37-year-old star came to fame with his powerful acting, who debuted with Coffee Prince- a decade ago - since then he never turned back. He starred in a number of TV dramas and movies Big, Finding Mr. Destiny, One Fine Day, and Silenced. He was also undoubtedly well recognized for the hit zombie thriller movie Train to Busan. However, his recent hit drama, Goblin made him a global star.
In conversation with CNN Talk Asia's Anna Coren, Gong Yoo revealed about his life as an actor and what he likes and dislikes on being one of the most popular actors of South Korea.
The actor revealed, "I have been working as an actor for 16-17 years now the funny thing is I still feel awkward in communicating with the public as a star. It hasn't been long since my drama Goblin ended and I'm looking forward for some time to rest. "
The Goblin actor further told Anna Coren how hard it is to handle all the fame and attention he gets. He explained saying, "As an actor, you have to face the public all the time, it is a job that people fantasies but it also creates prejudices, these prejudices are the scariest things. People judge a personal life or your image and it can affect the characters I play. Therefore I try not to showcase my personal life too much."
While conversing with her he accepted that he doesn't like and doesn't trust 'communication through social media.'
The fact that he is now such a huge star takes him away from little pleasures of life, rather leading a normal life.
Gong Yoo goes on to say,"I like going out to have street food without being disturbed. I like taking walks but it's been so long since I've been able to do that. I miss being able to walk around freely in crowded places. I can't go tanning [on the beaches] since everyone takes photos of me. There are cameras, I hate it.
No matter where he goes he is been mobbed by fans as he reveals an incident stating, "I went to Australia for a commercial and we stopped at a restaurant. On my way out, I was surrounded by many fans and they started pulling on my clothes. They came to see me so I couldn't be mad at them."
When the actor was asked why Goblin became such a hit, he laughed it out stating, "I don't know why, I don't know. It was a piece I was really worried about. I certainly didn't think Asia and the world would love it so much. I think the public thought the interaction [between a human and a "god"] was fresh. It might be similar to Twilight, where a vampire fell in love with a girl."
He concluded revealing that he never wanted to be an actor saying, "I never thought about becoming an actor. Even when I applied for University, I didn't choose theater as a major to become an actor. I had a lot of friends who dreamed of being actors and as I hung out with them, I became more interested in it."
