In the latest episode of South Korean cooking-variety program 'Please Take Care of My Refrigerator,' singer Park Ji-yeon, popularly known by her stage name, Gummy, revealed a not so encouraging fact about her close friend and singer Hwanhee.
As reported by Allkpop, Gummy was asked on the cooking show whether she thinks her friend Hwanhee is a boyfriend material. Her answer was quite discouraging to the many female fans of Hwanhee as she said she wouldn't consider his type as her boyfriend. "I wouldn't like it," Gummy said.
The "We Should've Been Friends" singer elaborated on her opinion further saying "I think I'd be really anxious to have a guy like Hwanhee as my boyfriend. Girls like him too much." Hwanhee laughed at her explanation. That is indeed true as singer Hwanhee is very popular with girls, what with his swoon-worthy voice they say he has.
Then the 35-year old singer was asked in a not so subtle way, about her own boyfriend, South Korean actor Jo Jung-suk. Gummy said "I trust him.'" Her simple comment shows that their relationship is going strong.
Singer Brian Joo, had revealed that he had a crush on Gummy and almost asked her out without knowing that she was already in a relationship with Jo Jung-suk, website Soompi reported in April, 2015. "At the time, I was performing in concerts together with Gummy. I didn't know that she was in a relationship and I asked her out," Brian had told the MCs in one episode of MBC's "Quiz to Change the World." He added "Since Gummy seemed so uninterested in me, I had asked her as if I were joking, 'How do you feel about guys like me?' and 'How would you feel about marrying me?' But then Hwanhee came to me and stopped me, saying that she has a man already."
Gummy herself had talked about her love life with Jo Jung-suk in April of 2015, in an episode of 'Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook' reported Allkpop. She had said "It feels good to be loved" adding she and Jo Jung Suk talk a lot about music and that her boyfriend "makes sure to monitor" her appearances.
Both Gummy and Hwanhee also talked about their respective stage names. "The meaning of Gummy (Korean for spider) is exactly that, a spider. That became my stage name because once you fall into a spider's web, you can't get out," Gummy said. While Hwanhee revealed that it was SM Entertainment's record producer Lee Soo Man chose his stage name. "The meaning behind Hwanhee is good (meaning Joy in Korean) and it's a commonly used phrase so he picked it for me, hoping lots of people would say it to me," the 'Fly to the Sky' singer said, as reported by Allkpop.
Hwanhee said that he was not too keen on the new name initially. "At first, I did not really like it. However, there's Kangta [of H.O.T] and Junjin [of Shinhwa], so I thought [my name] was better than theirs. I thought mine was better than theirs. If you combine Hwanhee and Kangta, it becomes Hwanta. There were a lot of fun stories," Hwanhee said.
