An elderly woman was left to bleed to death by unidentified assailants who inserted a bottle of toilet cleaner into her anal cavity. This horrific incident was reported on 6 January from a village in India's northern state of Haryana. Though initial investigation did not produce any evidence of rape, police are not ruling out the angle of sexual abuse.
The Time of India reported that after the autopsy revealed that the force with which the foreign object was inserted in the anus of the 80-year-old woman had ruptured the rectum as well as damaged both the small and big intestines. The wound caused so much internal bleeding that her lungs got choked.
Doctors who carried out the post-mortem were shocked to see the brutality with which the woman was murdered. The case reminded them of the infamous gang-rape incident of December 2012, where a rod was inserted into the private parts of the victim who was repeatedly raped in a moving bus, said the doctors, according to the news website.
Police said that the victim's body was found in the bed, warped in blood-soaked quilts on 4 December. She was immediately rushed to the nearby Sonipat civil hospital where the doctors discovered the toilet cleaner bottle inside her body.
Police are yet to figure out who killed her and how did they enter the house. "Jai Bhagwan was the first to see his mother's body... When he removed the quilts, he saw the blood. He informed the neighbours who called the police. We have asked the doctors to take swabs to ascertain whether victim was subjected to sexual abuse or not." said Dr Sumit Kaushal, a member of the medical board constituted to conduct autopsy, as reported.
While describing the horrific incident the doctor added, "You won't believe what I saw. Imagine the pain the victim must have gone through."
The victim was from a humble family from a backward class and was staying on the ground floor of the small house while one of her two sons, who has taken 10 acres of land on lease to cultivate, was occupying the first floor.
This shocking incident comes amid protests over the mass molestation on New Year Eve in Bangalore city that has shocked the country. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) of India suggests a reported rape rate of 2 per 100,000 people, which is much lower than what local media report.
