Ever witnessed the horrors of combat? These sportsmen and women have been through life changing experiences after meeting with the harsh reality of making a sacrifice for their country and yet have emerged stronger.

The Invictus Games is an international sporting event founded by Prince Harry for the wounded, injured and sick service personnel. The Latin word Invictus refers to ''unconquered''. This term embodies the fighting spirit of these valiant people in spite of their life-changing injuries and infirmities.

As stated by the Invictus foundation, these games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for servicemen and women wounded, injured and sick while serving their country.

After its inception in London in the year 2014, the third instalment of the Games was held in Toronto, Canada this year. Iam is the motto of the Invictus Games. The motto was inspired by the last two lines of the of the poem Invictus written by William Ernest Henley. The lines state that I am the master of fate, I am the Captain of my soul.

I AM reflects the Games' primary purpose to provide an opportunity for personal achievement and compete not just with another but with one's self in order to prove the motto's significance.

The games took place from September 23-30 with around 1500 volunteers. 17 nations with over 550 competitors participated in this event. The event consisted of 12 adaptive sports which included Archery, Athletics, Cycling, Driving Challenge, Golf, Indoor Rowing, Powerlifting, Sitting Volleyball, Swimming, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby and Wheelchair Tennis.

The 2017 games also introduced the Invictus Games relay, the first of its kind in the history of the Invictus Games.
