Prolific Italian hacker and jailbreak developer Luca Todesco has finally confirmed his plans to develop an unfinished iOS 10.2 jailbreak, using the Yalu + Mach_Portal tool for non-iPhone 7/7 Plus 64-bit devices. This comes as a welcome change as the hacker had earlier denied any plans of releasing the new jailbreak for iOS 10.2, fearing concerns of losing precious exploits with the impending release of iOS 10.2.1 by Apple.
Todesco in his earlier tweet had advised prospective iOS 10 jailbreakers to avoid the iOS 10.2.1 update once it's rolled out by the Cupertino Company, as it would rob the users of their golden opportunity to use the saved SHSH2 blobs for iOS 10.2, if that firmware gets a working jailbreak.
Confirming the change in his plans, the hacker had this to say in his recent tweet to the jailbreak community:
"My fix for the issues in the 10.1 jailbreak will be to add support to 10.2. It will however not work on iPhone 7 on 10.2, just 10 and 10.1."
Although Todesco has not revealed why exactly the iOS 10.2 jailbreak wouldn't work on the newer iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices, it is evident that the jailbreak creator does not wish to risk burning another exploit on iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus for releasing a public iOS 10.2 jailbreak.
In other words, it is almost certain that the hacker will be using the older exploits for iOS 10 jailbreak that have already been tested on non-iPhone 7/7 Plus devices while preserving the yet unused exploits for future jailbreak releases.
Furthermore, the Italian jailbreak developer and security researcher has hinted that the forthcoming Yalu jailbreak update for iOS 10.2 will include all the fixes available with Yalu beta releases to date.
Those running the older iOS 10.1.x or 10.2 update on their non-iPhone 7 64-bit devices are urged to hold off the temptation for iOS 10.2.1 upgrade once it's released. On the contrary, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus users are recommended to stay on iOS 10.1.x as the forthcoming Yalu jailbreak for iOS 10.2 lacks support for newer iPhones.
