National public broadcaster of South Korea, KBS, has finally acknowledged their mistake over miscalculation of scores on the show, Music Bank, aired on 27 May. The show was reportedly under scanner over dubious scoring between AOA and other music bands.
It is stated that, in the Friday's episode, the producers misinterpreted the scores and wrongly announced girl group AOA as the winners by awarding them with 6400 points for their track, Good Luck. The other band in the running was Twice, which made it to the second spot.
However, after realizing their fault, and crafting the data all over again, the producers of the music ranking show affirmed that the trophy should have been awarded to the K-pop girl group, Twice, instead.
In an additional statement, as quoted by Soompi, Shin Mi Jin of KBS told to OSEN that they would not take back the trophy from the eight-member band, AOA, instead, will provide Twice a new trophy. He said: "What's important is not the physical trophy, but comforting the members of TWICE and AOA, who were hurt with this mixup."
Music band airs live every Friday at 17:00 KST. Since May 2015, it is hosted by Red Velvet's Irene and Park Bo-gum.
KBS's Music Bank ranks the songs as per its popularity during the week. Its selects the winner based on four factors – digital sales (65 percent of total score), viewer votes (10 percent), broadcast scores (20 percent), and album sales (5 percent).
