Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun will be enlisting in the military quietly.
The 29-year-old star of hit dramas such as "Moon Embracing the Sun" and "My Love from the Star" is scheduled to enter the military on October 23.
Previously it was known that Kim Soo Hyun will be enlisting at the Nonsan Army Training Center in South Chungcheong Province but it was later found out that the place will be in Gyeonggi Province. The exact army training center where he will enter was not disclosed.
KeyEast Entertainment, the actor's agency, said Kim Soo Hyun does not want to bother other Korean men who will be enlisting on the same day as him.
"Kim Soo Hyun wants to enlist quietly. To be honest, I think he's overwhelmed (by the attention). He is a celebrity but he's just enlisting like anyone else. He also doesn't want to give harm to others enlisting on the same day," the agency said.
This is in contrast to many celebrities who announce their enlistment venue to bid farewell to fans and media for the last time before spending close to two years in the military.
He will undergo five weeks of basic military training before being placed in the army where he will serve as an active duty soldier for the next 21 months.
Kim Soo Hyun was diagnosed with heart disease when he was a child and underwent surgery. He first received a Grade 4 status for his enlistment which meant he would serve as a public service worker but was later allowed to serve in the active duty after reexamination.
Last July, he said, "I was very sick before, but I am all better after getting proper treatment. I think I will be enlisting to active duty. I'm 30 years old now. Since the military was on my mind for the last 10 years, it feels like a natural process now."
