Thirty people, including two married women, were detained by the Malacca Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) on 1 January in raids at budget hotels and night massage parlours. The detainees were aged between 21 and 56 years and were arrested during a five-hour anti-vice operation in Malaysia's Melacca state.
According to Malay Mail, JAIM Enforcement Division principal assistant director Rahimin Bani said that while nine people were arrested from four massage parlours which operate from 11.30pm, another 21, including 10 men and 11 women, were detained after they were found together in seven low budget hotels in Malacca Tengah on Malaysia's southwest coast.
"Two men and a woman were detained in a hotel room in Bandar Hilir while a couple was nabbed in a hotel room in Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho with drug believed to be syabu," said Rahimin, as reported by the news website.
"The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) also seized paraphernalia believed to have been used for processing drugs at the hotel room in Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho," he added.
