A man has been reportedly killed by a crocodile that attacked him while he was fishing in Malaysian states of Sabah around midnight on 6 October.
The deceased, identified as Herry Long (28), was missing from 1am. Long and his friends had gone to the Kg Langkon River in Sabah's Kota Marudu district for fishing.
Later in the morning, at around 9:15am, his body was found floating in the lake and was sent to the hospital for post-mortem, said the State Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Khatizah Rahaban, as reported by the Straits Times.
"His body was found floating some 1km away from where he was last seen," she added.
When Long's friends were unable to find him at dawn, as they prepared to head back home, they made an emergency call after which a prompt search operation was launched.
However, the operation was halted at around 2:30am for safety reasons.
Villagers of the area told police they prefer fishing late at night than during day as they can catch more at that time.
In March 2016, an Australian man was attacked and killed by an alligator while he was reportedly hiding from police in Brevard town of Melbourne.
Matthew Riggins's body was found 10 days later from the day he went missing in a lake in Barefoot Bay.
Major Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office told DailyMail reported on March 8 that "He probably went into the lake to hide from the officers and the dog, and came across that gator."
Moreover, the study of the remains of the body found inside the crocodile's stomach confirmed that Riggings was eaten by the animal.
Matthew Riggins was on the run after an alleged incident of theft.
