Police have seized an equipment, used for making fish bombs, from a boat belonging to a married couple at Pulau Sipanggao on 7 January. Officers have also taken the couple into custody.
According to Malay Mail, Region Four Marine Operation Force (MOF) Commander ACP Mohamad Madun said that the man (35) and the woman (36) were arrested at around 4 pm during a patrol in the area.
Following the initial arrest, the officers searched their boat and discovered a bottle containing Ammonia fertiliser and a detonator. Mohamad, in a statement on 8 January, said that these materials are used to make a bomb fish.
Moreover, the officers also found 100 packets of crystal-like powder, which is believed to be drug, reported the news agency.
Meanwhile, the couple has been taken to the MOF base in Semporna for questioning and they will be charged under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 and also for drug possession.
