Malaysia's top-ranked Men's doubles shuttlers Tan Wee Kiong and Goh V Shem are gearing up to make amends for their disappointing quarter-final exit at All England Championships by getting it right at India Open Superseries tournament, starting 28 March.
After a dream season in 2016, in which the Malaysian pair picked up a Rio Games silver medal and finished the year with a title at the Dubai World Superseries Final, there was high hopes on Tan and Goh as they headed into the World Superseries Premier event in Birmingham as the top seeds.
After decimating Japan's Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi and China's Liu Xiaolong/Xu Chen in the first two rounds, the then world number one pairing lost to their familiar foes, China's Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen in a hard-fought last-eight battle 19-21, 21-17, 19-21 that extended for an hour and six minutes.
The defeat also saw them concede their world number status to Indonesia's Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, who went on to win the All England Championships earlier this month. However, Tan believes Goh and himself are not going to be bothered by the setback but will spring back to form in India.
Notably, Tan and Goh are once again the top seeds at the tournament, in which bowed out in the semi-final last year after a straight games loss to the world number one pair. They will take on Thailand's Kittinupong Kedren/Dechapol Puavaranukroh in the opening round this year and are expected to face Junhui and Yuchen as early as in the third round.
"V Shem and I did not met our target at the All-England, but we did not fare too badly either. We will get it right in India," Tan said, as quoted by The Star.
"Our matches against Junhui-Yuchen have always been close. We gave them a good fight in the All-England, but we were not consistent towards the end. We will be ready for them if we meet them in India."
