The 2017 Formula One Drivers' World Championship battle has ended after Mexican Grand Prix on 30 October, Monday and Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton is about to receive his fourth championship trophy after Abu Dhabi GP.
Before the Mexican GP, the Briton had 66 points lead in the championship list. To become the world champion he needed to finish the race as a fifth grid driver or in a higher position.
During the first lap in the final race, the 32-year-old driver had to deal with a puncher issue after a hit by the rival Sebastian Vettel, which also caused the front wing break of the Ferrari car.
While taking a corner in the first lap Ferrari's Vettel and Red Bull's Max Verstappen touched their tyers. On the other hand, Hamilton tried to be an opportunist and wanted to surpass both the cars but unfortunately became the victim.
Hamilton asked his team that "Do you think he hit me deliberately?" but no one from Mercedes replied to him.
Both the contenders of the championship came together for an early pit, which later became an advantage to Hamilton. Because after the clash both slipped from their position. So, to keep the championship hope alive, Vettel had to finish the race as a second grid driver or the winner.
Meanwhile, Verstappen became the leader and Hamilton's teammate Valtteri Bottas and Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen followed the leader.
The German driver Vettel gave his level best to restart the race and finish it with a championship hope. But when he reached the fourth position he was far behind his teammate Räikkönen. So he did not get a chance to take-over the third place and the second placed driver Bottas.
On the other side, Hamilton slowly reached to the ninth position after crossing McLaren's Fernando Alonso to gain at least two points from the Mexican race.
Although, when the race ended the main attraction was supposed to be race winner Verstappen and other two drivers from the second and third position, the confirmation of Hamilton's championship win stole the limelight from other drivers.
The 2017 drivers' championship winner Hamilton became the first British driver to win the championship for four times. There are two more drivers standing with four championship titles. The first person is Ferrari's Vettel, who was racing for his fifth championship trophy and the second driver is French driver Alain Prost.
Although Hamilton and other drivers will be featured in Brazilian and Abu Dhabi GP, the race for the championship has finished already, even Mercedes has announced as the constructors of the year.
However, the next formula one race will be in Autódromo José Carlos Pace, Brazil on 12 November, Sunday. After the last race at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi Hamilton will clinch the trophy of 2017 driver's championship.
