The Nokia 3 has just been confirmed to get the official Android 7.1.1 Nougat update in August.
HMD Global previously dropped a promise to Nokia 3 users that Android 7.1.1 Nougat will be rolled out soon. The release is slated by the end of August as Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global's chief product officer, took to Twitter on Saturday to announce the good news.
The Nokia 3 was first released in June with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The smartphone will also be receiving the future Android O and Android P software updates later this year and in 2018, respectively, as announced by HMD Global during the device's launch. Aside from the Nokia 3, the updates have also been confirmed coming to the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 soon.
Google first released the Android 7.1.1 Nougat on 5 December 2016. The developer takes pride of the software update bringing a host of cool features and stability and performance improvements.
One of the most notable changes includes a gender balanced set of emoji by introducing their female counterparts. Mechanics, medical doctors, astronauts, and farmers, among many others, have been added to reflect such change.
Android 7.1.1 Nougat also delivers a GIF ability right from the phone's keyboard. Supported apps include Google Allo, Google Messenger, and Hangouts, among others. Google has also added app shortcuts directly from the home screen for easy access to actions on frequently used apps.
