NU'EST's fans have shown that they are very generous when it comes to helping others for various social causes. They recently donated a staggering amount of money for former sex slaves.
As reported by website Allkpop, the fans of the South Korean boy group NU'EST together gathered 6,348,000 KRW (South Korean Won), which is about 5 593.44 United States Dollars (USD). They are celebrating NU'EST's 2000 days since debut (March 15, 2012), that is coming up on September 4.
Allkpop mentions that the company Marymond, sells phone cases and accessories. The proceeds from such sales go towards helping elderly women who were once exploited as sex slaves during the Japanese imperial occupation of Korea; which began in 1910 and ended with the conclusion of World War II in 1945. The sensitive subject is also part of the storyline of the latest movie 'The Battleship Island.'
The NU'EST fans reportedly bought 529 'girl statue' bracelets and all the money earned from the sales were donated for the former sex slaves. NU'EST member Ren, Allkpop mentions, is also known to use Marymond products such as phone cases and badges.
This isn't the first time fans of NU'EST have showed such generosity. In March 15, 2014, many of them had gathered across the world and donated 780 kilograms of rice, 200 eggs and 80 packs of charcoal briquettes among other things, to celebrate the inaugural opening ceremony of their fan club, 'The First L.O.Λ.E Story.' The supplies were distributed in select places to those in need.
Also, NU'EST members attended the opening ceremony and entertained the fans with performances. NU'EST performed "FACE," "Hello," "Introduce Me to Your Nuna," "Please Don't." JR and Aron also prepared a special stage, and Baekho and Minhyun had covered "Wait for You" by Elliott Yamin, website Kpopstarz had reported.
Meanwhile, Soompi notes that a source from MBC every1 confirmed on August 9 that NU'EST W will appear on MBC every1's 'Weekly Idol.' The source added, "NU'EST W's episode will be filmed during the afternoon today." This will also reportedly be the first time NU'EST W, with Aron, JR, Baekho and Ren, will appear on 'Weekly Idol' as a unit group. Minhyun is now a member of Wanna One.
Though a specific date has not been set, the 'Weekly Idol' episode is scheduled to air sometime in the month of August.
