Singapore Post in collaboration with Singapore National Olympic Council has decided to release two limited edition stamp sheets featuring the athletes of the Singapore Team who competed in the Rio Olympics 2016.
Singapore Post will also contribute the net proceeds, or a minimum of S$10,000, from the sale of these stamps to the Singapore Olympic Foundation.
The first stamp sheet which is called Team Singapore MyStamp sheet is priced at S$20. The stamps are released as a mark of gratitude to the Singaporean athletes who qualified for the Olympics.
The stamps will have pictures of Joseph Schooling and the Quah siblings from swimming, Liang Xiao Yu and Derrick Wong among the shuttlers, Saiyidah Aisyah from rowers, Denise Lim and Justin Liu among the sailors, paddlers such as Feng Tian Wei, Yu Meng Yu and Zhou Yi Han, Jasmine Ser and Teo Shun Xie among the shooters and runners Timothee Yap and Neo Jie Shi.
The second sheet of these limited edition stamps, which is called the Singapore's First Olympic Gold MyStamp sheet, is priced at S$10. These stamps will have the image of Joseph Schooling's final swim and medal reception.
Joseph Schooling piped American great Michael Phelps to win the men's 100 metres butterfly final to secure Singapore's first Olympic gold medal. Michael Phelps was the defending champion and world record holder.
According to reports, the CEO of postal services, Woo Keng Leong, said: "With these stamps, every Singaporean can own a piece of this milestone. Most importantly, these stamps demonstrate our support of Singapore's talented athletes and their pursuit of sporting excellence at the highest levels."
The stamps will be available from August 29 at all post offices and the Singapore Philatelic Museum.
