Fans of School series would love this update. The 2017 edition of the series will be aired in July after the completion of the ongoing Fight for My Way. We had already reported that the KBS team are in talks with actress Kim Yoo Jung to play the female lead in the series.
However, Kim's agency Sidus HQ has clarified that though the actress was considering the role optimistically, she has turned down the offer due to prior commitments. Now, the latest buzz is that Kim Se-jeong (21), a member of Girl Group's group, Gugudan, has been finalised for the role.
In a press statement, KBS stated that Jung will play the role of a cheerful high school girl, Ra Eun Ho, who dreams of becoming a webtoon artist despite having bad grades.
"Kim Se-jeong's unique leadership and bright personality match well with Ra Eun Ho's character. The more we met her, the more we felt like we were seeing Ra Eun Ho in real life. We're looking forward to her energy and acting potential coming out on School 2017," a production crew member told All K-pop.
It is the seventh instalment of the School series, which was aired from 1999-2002 and then in 2012 and 2015. Actor Kim Jung Hyun is likely to play the male lead. School 2017 edition is likely to showcase the realistic lifestyle of a bunch of school students, the hardships they face, and the raw emotions they feel.
Se-jeong made her singing debut in 2016 with the nine-member girl band Gugudan, formed by Jellyfish Entertainment. They debuted with the mini-album Act. 1 The Little Mermaid and its title track 'Wonderland'. The group also consists of Mimi, Hana, Haebin, Nayoung, Sally, Soyee, Mina and Hyeyeon. Se-jeong shot to fame for finishing second in Mnet's K-pop girl group survival show Produce 101.
