President Juan Carlos Varela announced Noriegas death on Twitter late on May 29, and said his passing marked the closing of a chapter in Panamas history.

Renowned Mexican journalist gunned down in the street An award winning Mexican journalist has been gunned down on 15 May, in the lawless state of Sinaloa. Javier Valdez was renowned for his coverage of drug trafficking and organized crime, and was awarded an International Press Freedom Award in 2011 for his coverage. Valdez is the fifth journalist to be killed in recent months.
