A school shooting incident in US state of Florida on Wednesday afternoon left 17 people killed and several injured. According to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, 12 were killed in the school building, two victims of the incident died outside the building and another victim lost his life on a road nearby, while two other people died in the hospital later, reports IANS.
Parkland was named Florida's safest city in 2017, CNN had reported citing a report by the Washington-based National Council for Home Safety. The massacre happened at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The brutal incident took place when the students were leaving the school.
The shooter was identified as the 19-year-old expelled student of the school by name Nikolaus Cruz and was captured shortly after the shooting from 1.6 kilometres away from the school. Police found an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle from the spot.
This is not the first case of school shooting incident as 212 shooting events occurred inside school premises so far in the last 100 years.
