Singapore Airlines' regional wing SilkAir will be launching non-stop flights between Singapore and Hiroshima, Japan starting October 30 this year. According to the group's statement, the return flight service will run three times a week, specifically on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The direct flights will be operated with the airlines' fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which has Business and Economy class cabins.
SilkAir Chief Executive Foo Chai Woo said the addition of Hiroshima and Japan to SilkAir's route network marks a significant milestone for the airline and demonstrates its continuous commitment to connect its passengers conveniently to the different parts of the world.
"SilkAir is proud to be offering the only non-stop flights between Hiroshima and Singapore, and we are confident that we can serve the demand from both cities. Hiroshima has been popular with Singaporeans, due to its historical significance, good weather and proximity to various attractions in neighbouring cities," Foo added.
Hiroshima is located in the Chugoku Region of Japan and is home to two World Heritage Sites namely the Itsukushima Shrine and the A-Bomb Dome of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial.
He furthered, "e are also hopeful that the Japanese travelling to Singapore from Hiroshima will find this route more convenient, especially for connecting to the other South-east Asian destinations that SilkAir serves. Expanding our network to Japan is something we have been very excited about and working very hard for."
With this launch, the combined Singapore Airlines-SilkAir network will serve a total of six Japanese airports including ones in Fukuoka, Nagoya, Osaka, and the two in Tokyo. This also raises SilkAir's route network to 54 destinations across 16 countries in Asia and Australia.
