While Bahrain defeated Singapore in 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifier match by 3-0 at the National Stadium of Singapore, India maintained their dream run in Group A after a draw with Myanmar at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa on 14 November, Tuesday.
In the match between Singapore and Bahrain, Mahdi Abdul Jabbar, the Bahraini striker scored the first goal of the match at the 65th minute and his compatriot Jamal Rashid gave the visitors a 2-0 lead after his 81st-minute goal. Later, Jabbar scored during the last few minutes of the match which forced Lions to drop their 2019 AFC Asian Cup dreams.
Miroslav Soukup the coach of Bahrain has said that he is happy to see that his players learned a lot from the previous match and performed well against the south-east Asian country on Tuesday.
"I was pleased with what I saw in the second half as we learnt from our lessons in Chinese Taipei. Our strikers started challenging the defence and began scoring again," said Soukup as quoted by AFC.
"After having only one or two chances in the first half, I told my players at half-time that they should be more individualistic in the final third instead of stringing passes around," the 52-year-old coach further added.
"Like the previous leg in Bahrain, Singapore sat deep and did not give us much space, while they were a danger in set-plays early in the game," he concluded.
On the other hand, India managed to score one goal in the previous battle against Myanmar and maintained their unbeaten record in the final round of 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifier with a 2-2 draw against the visitors.
While the Burmese winger Yan Naing Oo scored an early goal, Indian captain Sunil Chhetri equalized the scoreline after his penalty kick in the 13th minute. However, the Myanmar striker Kyaw Ko Ko tried to hold a lead of 2-1. The 26-year-old Jeje Lalpekhlua chested down a long cross and finished the match with accuracy in the 69th minute.
The team blue is now unbeaten for last 13 matches and has already ensured qualification for the continental championship. The South Asian country India has achieved the top position in Group A with 13 points from five matches.
