A kick scooter rider was injured on Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a car near Holland Village in Singapore. According to reports, the boy was taken to National University Hospital for treatment.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that the incident took place at around 4.45 pm on Leedon Road when the car driver could not brake in time and collided with the boy. SCDF added that an ambulance was immediately dispatched to the scene.

A video that was posted on the Facebook page of road safety group Roads.sg showed the dashboard camera footage of the boy riding his scooter along the pavement before he attempts to cut across the road without checking for oncoming traffic.

The accident footage has sparked a debate among netizens. Many of them have highlighted the importance of teaching the road safety rules to children.

"Parents/Guardians. Please mind your kids and teach them about safety. The road (including drive ways and car parks) are not playgrounds," one Facebook user commented on the video posted.

Another user wrote: "Let this lesson be learn to all parents who ignores the safety of their own children. Whether it's e-scooter, running across the road without any regards. Lucky that this boy sustain minor injuries."
