Singapore is planning to have flying drones to transport people from one place to another to avoid traffic jams. According to the authorities, in 13 years from now, the skies of the island state will be hosting a number of flying taxis.
According to the Business Times, the plan was first shared by the Permanent Secretary Pang Kin Keong at the second Business Times Leaders Forum last Wednesday in front of 400 delegates. The Secretary said that the Ministry of Transport is looking to explore the current technologies to improve transportation in Singapore.
The ministry has already connected with several tech firms regarding this plan. As a matter of fact, many companies involved in this technology are already in the process of developing a flying car that can be successfully launched in the air. For example, Germany-based start-up company Lilium has already developed a prototype of its flying car named the Lilium Jet.
As per a CNET report, Singapore government is also mulling over the idea of adding on-demand buses and self-driving buses into the nation's public bus network.
However, Singapore is not the first country to consider the idea of flying cars. Dubai has already a taken step forward; as it is all set to launch self-flying air-taxi service this coming July.
Point to note: Uber has announced its plans last year to create a fleet of flying cars under the moniker Elevate.
