A Singaporean woman died during a scuba diving trip in Indonesia's Komodo National Park. She had disappeared after the jump at a popular diving spot in the West Manggarai Regency where strong currents made the waters dangerous.
Neo Qiu Ping Vera, a qualified autonomous diver, was reported missing on Sunday after she failed to return from scuba diving in the waters of Gili Lawa in the Komodo National Park.
Neo's body was found near the dive spot at 10.55 am on Monday, the National Search and Rescue Agency of Indonesia told The Straits Times. The body of Neo, who holds an Advanced Adventurer certification, is at Siloam Hospital.
According to Indonesian media, she was on the diving trip with 10 other people, including five Singaporeans and five Indonesians. There was a local guide too. They had set out on a cruise boat run by tour company Komodo Trails.
After diving on Sunday, the group returned to the boat at around 5 pm and found out that Neo had not come back.
The captain of the group waited for about an hour for Neo but when she didn't come back, he informed the authorities. As nightfall was approaching, the search could not begin until Monday morning.
Neo earned her Advanced Adventurer diving certification with Scuba Schools International in December 2014.
