Korean-Japanese singer and entertainer Kangnam is under fire for his rude and belittling comments on a TV show against West African country Ghana.
In the October 22 episode of the Korean reality TV show "Mom's Diary-My Ugly Duckling," Kangnam and fellow singer Tony An visited the house of TV personality Sam Okyere, a Ghana native who has been living in South Korea for nine years.
During their conversation, Okyere revealed, "My schedule is fully booked when I go to Ghana. I have a lot of interviews."
Kangnam was surprised to hear it and asked him, "They have TVs in Ghana?"
Tony An told Kangnam "Of course there are TVs! You're making a mistake" but Kangnam said, "They have broadcast stations like SBS, MBC..? '(Shows like) 'Laws of the Jungle'?"
"Of course, they even play Korean dramas nowadays," Okyere replied to Kangnam.
When Kangnam asked Okyere if they have subways in Ghana, Okyere said, "No, but there are buses and airplanes, and also lions. But I'm also a city man. I need to go to the zoo if I want to see lions. The city in Ghana is similar to Seoul."
But that didn't stop Kangnam from asking more belittling questions.
"Oh, so there are buildings? Are there also clubs?" he asked Okyere to which Tony An said, "Of course, they must have them."
On Netizen Buzz, Koreans scored Kangnam for his insensitive comments.
"How can you be this dumb," one netizen said while another commented "He probably thought he was being funny. I'm sure we all know a few people like him around us who spit out things without thinking. Such a waste of my time dealing with them."
Another wrote, "Sam was so smart in Ghana that he received government support to study abroad in Korea. You, however, are a failed idol who had to live off of your mom's money until you lucked out on a variety show and earned a flash of fame before dropping to the C-list tier that you are now. Sam is fluent in English and Korean but you're so dumb you haven't even gotten Korean down yet. If you're trying to look down on someone, you need to be better than them in at least one thing, so what were you thinking to speak to him like that???"
